Investigation into King Street nightclub shooting continues

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting of two people by police at a King Street night club in July, Victoria Police say.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone present at the premises on the night to come forward and make contact with police.

The incident, which occurred shortly after 3am on 8 July, is being investigated by detectives from the Armed Crime Squad.

This investigation is also being oversighted by the Professional Standards Command, as per standard protocol when there has been a police shooting.

Police received a report of a man armed with a firearm in an upstairs room of the nightclub.

Members of the Critical Incident Response Team attended to speak to the man and subsequently fired at the 35-year-old Surf Beach man, who was struck in the torso.

A 37-year-old Craigieburn woman who was with the man at the time also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Both were conveyed to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, no one has been charged in relation to the incident and the investigation remains ongoing.

Victoria Police will also provide assistance to IBAC as part of their inquiry into the incident.

Police are asking anyone who was at the premises on the night and is yet to speak to police to come forward.
