Investigation underway into crash in Walgett

Police are investigating a serious two-vehicle crash in the state’s north yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just after 10.30am (Monday 19 March 2018), emergency services were called to the intersection of Peel and Arthur streets, Walgett, following a crash between a Mitsubishi Fuso truck and a Mazda 3 hatchback.

A passenger in the hatchback, an 11-year-old girl, was airlifted to the Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the hatchback, a 29-year-old woman, was taken to Walgett Hospital, suffering minor injuries.

The truck driver, a 47-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to Walgett Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
