Investigation underway into robbery near Wollongong, NSW

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was assaulted and robbed near Wollongong today, NSW Police say.

About 6.30pm (Friday 11 May 2018), a 40-year-old man was walking his dog on Woodlawn Avenue, near Payne Street, at Mangerton, when he was struck in the back of the head by a man.

Police have been told up to four men then repeatedly assaulted the 40-year-old man before he and his dog were threatened and his wallet stolen.

The man was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition, suffering injuries to his head and leg. The dog was not injured.

Officers from Wollongong Police District commenced an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who saw four men acting suspiciously in the area at the time, to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
