Investigations underway after man assaulted and robbed in Newcastle

Police are investigating after a man was assaulted and robbed at Newcastle overnight, NSW Police say.

About 9.50pm (Wednesday 16 May 2018), a 25-year-old man was on the corner of Metcalf and Cowper Streets, Wallsend.

Four men, only described as wearing dark clothing, approached the man.

He was hit on the face by one of the men before they stole his watch, mobile phone and shoes.

The man made his way to a nearby fast-food restaurant and contacted emergency services.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District attended and are investigating.
