iTunes gift cards scam warning – R U in Control?

The Financial and Cyber Crime Group is warning the public of current scams involving payments with iTunes gift cards, Queensland Police say.

Scammers continue to use trusted brands, including the Australian Taxation Office and utility companies to contact customers and demand payment for fines or overdue accounts. The letters or phone calls will ask for payment in iTunes or other gift cards and threaten arrest if payment is not made.

If you are asked to pay for a service or fine using an iTunes or other gift card, it is a scam. Legitimate businesses will not ask for payment in this form.
