Ivanhoe escapees arrested in Warrawong

Two men, who escaped from a correctional facility in Ivanhoe, have been arrested in the Illawarra area, NSW Police say.

The men, aged 29 and 31, allegedly escaped from a minimum-security correctional centre on Mitchell Street, Ivanhoe, about 6pm on Saturday 9 July 2016.

Following a state-wide search for the pair, officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended a unit on Todd Street, Warrawong, about 11pm last night today.

Police spoke to a woman at the scene, before a search of the premises resulted in the two men being found and arrested.

The men were taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The younger man was charged with a number of offences including inmate escape/attempt to escape from lawful custody, two counts of assault law enforcement officer while in the execution of the officer’s duty, aggravated break, enter and commit serious indictable offence, and take and drive conveyance.

The older man was charged with a number of offences including inmate escape/attempt to escape from l awful custody, assault law enforcement officer while in the execution of the officer’s duty, intentionally or recklessly destroy/damage property, aggravated break, enter and steal, and knowingly be carried in/on stolen conveyance.

They were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today tomorrow.
