Iwi affiliation in admin and historical census data provides an evaluation of the current availability and quality of administrative (admin) and historical census data sources within the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) for iwi affiliation.
The evaluation includes looking at the metadata of each data source and assessing their coverage and consistency of the Māori descent population of the experimental administrative population census (APC). This paper updates the previously published assessment of iwi affiliation in admin data: Identifying Māori populations using administrative data: A comparison with the census.
This paper does not propose a methodology for creating an admin-first iwi affiliation variable nor is it an assessment of the feasibility of producing an admin-first iwi affiliation variable.
