More evidence has emerged of the Liberal Government's failure to address concerns about the Brahminy program in the Northern Territory.
Labor Shadow Minister for Child Safety and Youth, Josh Willie, today released correspondence that reveals Chid Safety Services (CSS) commenced an investigation into complaints about Brahminy in February.
The complaint was made by the mother of a youth in the Brahminy program directly to the Commissioner for Children, who passed it on to CSS.
"Despite having made the complaint in February, this parent still hasn't been informed of the outcome of the investigation," Mr Willie said.
"Her son remains in the Northern Territory, despite repeated requests him to be brought home.
"Roger Jaensch indicated yesterday that he only became aware of concerns about the Brahminy program following media reporting.
"Has Roger Jaensch misled Tasmanians yet again? Was he made aware of Child Safety Service's investigation in February?
"The Minister has only now indicated that it will look at a Tasmanian-based program to replace Brahminy. It is too little, too late.
"Why has it taken media pressure for Roger Jaensch to finally act to address the shameful practice of shipping at-risk Tasmanian kids to another state?
"This is an extremely serious matter and Roger Jaensch needs to stop hiding behind media advisers and press releases to explain why he has allowed this shocking situation to go on for so long."
