Energy infrastructure company Jemena is looking to support education and employment initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through its 2025 Community Grants Program.
Grants of up to $10,000 are being offered to organisations and projects that support education, training and workforce initiatives, as well as social enterprises that help build capacity in local communities.
Grants are being offered to support projects in areas where Jemena operates. This includes:
Northern Territory – Tennant Creek and surrounding areas
Queensland – Mt Isa and surrounding areas, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Rolleston, Biloela, Gladstone, Dalby, Wandoan, Roma
New South Wales – selected regions of New South Wales where our gas distribution network is located
Victoria – suburbs in Melbourne's north-west where our electricity distribution network is located, as well as areas near Sale.
"With our commitment to Reconciliation and desire to build respectful and inclusive relationships, we're very pleased this year to focus on initiatives supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as part of our long-standing Community Grants Program," Executive General Manager, People, Safety and Governance and Reconciliation Action Steering Committee Chair, Craig Ypinazar said.
"We have always sought to work with Traditional Owners and local communities as we build and operate our gas and electricity assets. This includes supporting Aboriginal employment programs in the Northern Territory since 2019, following the construction of Jemena's Northern Gas Pipeline.
"We're seeking grant applications from groups and projects that provide education and employment opportunities and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as social enterprises that help build capacity in local communities."
In 2025, Jemena is running two streams of its long-standing Community Grants Program – the First Nations stream, and a second stream, focusing on projects and initiatives supporting people experiencing disadvantage and supporting community wellbeing in designated locations in NSW, Victoria and Queensland. Grant applications for the second stream will open in late July.
Since the Jemena Community Grants Program's launch in 2019, Jemena has awarded almost $800,000 in local grants to 78 groups working to leave a lasting legacy for their local communities.
