Tuesday, 17 February 2026: Jetstar has revealed it carried more than 700,000 customers across the Tasman in 2025 - an increase of nine per cent on the previous year - as it partners with Tourism New Zealand in Australia, on a new campaign.
The New Zealand Sale campaign is launching in Australia today with Jetstar offering 20,000 trans-Tasman fares starting from just $164 one-way to further drive inbound travel demand.
Australia continues to be New Zealand's largest international visitor market and affordability is a key driver of growth, with nearly 400,000 Jetstar customers travelling on trans-Tasman flights for under $200 in 2025.
Jetstar's trans-Tasman growth
The expansion of Jetstar's trans-Tasman services added more than 145,000 new low-fare seats last year and opened up new regions of New Zealand to Australian travellers.
The low-cost carrier took off on four new routes in 2025, providing Australian and New Zealand travellers with new point-to-point routes and destinations:
- Cairns - Christchurch
- Gold Coast - Hamilton
- Sydney - Hamilton
- Gold Coast - Dunedin.
The airline has also announced a new seasonal Brisbane - Queenstown service launching on 15 June 2026, connecting Queensland travellers directly to the Southern Lakes region.
Jetstar CEO, Stephanie Tully, said the airline is working to strengthen New Zealand's tourism industry.
"Australia is New Zealand's most important international visitor market and we're focused on getting even more Aussies to visit Aotearoa.
"By expanding our trans-Tasman network and offering consistently low fares, we're making it easier for travellers to visit not just the major centres, but regional destinations right across New Zealand.
"This means more visitors, more choice and real benefits for local communities, particularly their hospitality and tourism operators."
Tourism New Zealand Regional Director - Australia, Andrew Waddel says, "It's fantastic to be working with Jetstar, to inspire more Australians to discover the beauty and diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand.
"These expanded services make it just as easy for Australians to reach our well‑loved cities as our remarkable regional destinations. With more direct connections, Aussies have more options to choose New Zealand for their next holiday and explore even more of what Aotearoa has to offer."
