Community-led projects happen when a community group or club approaches the Shire with an idea and we work together to bring it to life.
In the past, this has seen club rooms, pavilions, cricket pitches, tea kitchens, community gardens and more delivered on the Peninsula.
Now we are ready to expand and improve the program - with community's input.
We have updated the Draft Community-Led Projects Policy to allow for a broader range of programs to be included. The application process will improve too, clearly outlining eligibility, funding options and approvals. This will ensure community members understand how the partnership works before investing time and resources, and ensures a fairness and consistency across all applications.
Mayor Stephen Batty explained that partnering with clubs or groups to deliver projects with a clear community benefit is a top priority. "Clubs and community groups know what they need and are passionate about their projects," Cr Batty said.
"In some cases, clubs or groups fully fund their projects, while the Shire oversees the works. For other projects, both might contribute financially. Other times, third or fourth parties, like the State Government, get behind the project with funding too.
"The bottom line is, we want to make it easy for community to partner with us to deliver projects that benefit residents now and into the future."
