Kaimkillenbun's Memorial Park and Delacy Street Rest Area will be transformed into a symbol of identity and pride with a public artwork that reflects the spirit of the Western Downs and heart of the 'Bun community.
Western Downs residents are invited to have their say on the Kaimkillenbun Public Art Project, celebrating the unique character of Kaimkillenbun and inspired by local stories, memories and future vision of the community.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Peter Saxelby said feedback from residents would help guide the artist's creative direction, ensuring the final work is deeply rooted in local identity and pride.
"This is a chance for the people of Kaimkillenbun to shape a lasting cultural legacy through an exciting, lasting new public art offering," Cr Saxelby said.
"We want to empower the 'Bun community to be part of the journey, to share their stories, and to help inspire the artist's vision.
"Feedback gathered will help form a creative brief for the selected artist or artists, who will then be invited to develop concept designs for consideration.
"We'd love to hear about the larger-than-life stories of our local icons, favourite places nestled in our local landscapes, our unique 'Bun community spirit and the histories that deserve to be immortalised."
Cr Saxelby said the 'Bun Public Art Project was the next attraction in Council's 10-year Public Arts Strategy to develop a 600km self-drive sculpture trail across the Western Downs, designed to boost tourism and encourage residents to step outside their hometowns.
"The 'Bun Public Art Project will be the fourth instalment in a collection of community-inspired artworks which includes the Future Vision lantern sculpture in Dalby, How Ya Goin' mural in Tara and Stacks On sculpture series at Lake Broadwater," he said.
"Residents are now encouraged to visit the Have Your Say page before 5pm on 8 December to share what Kaimkillenbun means to them.
The shortlisted artists will be shared publicly in 2026, with the successful artist to be determined by a selection panel.
