Griffith is set to shine bright this Christmas with the launch of the Glow2680 campaign in conjunction with the 2022 Griffith Rotary Christmas Carnival from 5.30pm Friday December 2 at Griffith Memorial Park.
Council has joined forces with Griffith Rotary Club to bring both events together, creating a wonderful family friendly event for all to enjoy.
The Rotary Christmas Carnival will kick off from 5.30pm, where attendees can purchase tickets to win a ham, be entertained by Lorraine Sutton and friends, while enjoying a sausage and drink with thanks to Rotary Club of Griffith Avanti. Dizzy Dilemma will be keeping the crowd entertained with short interactive workshops, while Griffith City Library will be on hand with children's craft activities.
Griffith Rotary Club President, David Hammond said the Club is excited to partner again this year with Griffith City Council to bring some Christmas cheer back to residents.
"The 2021 event was a resounding success and we are so pleased to be able to join with Council to kick off the 2022 Christmas celebrations," said Mr Hammond.
"This is an event for the entire family to enjoy – we have live entertainment, face painting, sausage sizzle, ice-cream, fairy floss, coffee and the all-important Chocolate Wheel where you can purchase tickets to win a Christmas ham and other fantastic prizes.
Santa will be stopping by as well, so make sure you come along to Memorial Park on Friday 2 December and kick off the Christmas season with your family and friends," he added.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran will be in attendance, with Santa assisting turning on the Christmas Lights from 7.30pm.
Councillor Curran said preparations were well in hand to spread even more Christmas cheer around the region this year.
"Griffith will be bigger and brighter than ever this Christmas, and we are encouraging local residents to enter the Christmas Light and Merry Mailbox Competition at our website at glow268.com.au.
"Once the Banna Avenue and CBD Lights are switched on, take a look at our website and make sure you take the self-drive tour of the local lights – it is always a great way to get into the festive spirit," added Councillor Curran.
Councillor Curran said he hoped this festive event and Glow2680 would ensure locals had something to look forward to after another difficult year.
"We invite the community to join in the Christmas celebrations where possible and support local businesses when thinking of gifts and shopping."
Griffith City Council is encouraging residents to shop local this Christmas through the Star Business Program and Star Shopper Competition, as well as the Glow2680 Sidewalk Sale on Saturday 3 December.
Director Economic & Organisational Development, Ms Shireen Donaldson said many Banna Avenue businesses will head out to the pavement and be part of the Sidewalk Sale.
"More than 20 businesses have registered to bring the shopping to the street, with plenty of bargains to kick start your Christmas shopping," said Ms Donaldson.
"Keep an eye out for the Star Business sticker and enter the draw with your purchase – winners can take home a $500 voucher or one of five $100 vouchers to spend at a Star Business of your choosing – winners will be drawn on Thursday 22 December via Facebook Live."
