Kidnapping charges in Mount Gravatt, QLD

Detectives from the Logan District Criminal Investigation Branch have charged two men with a string of offences including kidnapping for ransom and torture following an incident in Mount Gravatt yesterday, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged the two men held a 40-year-old man against his will at a unit complex on Broadwater Road.

During this time, it will be further alleged that the man was assaulted physically through-out the day and was made to contact a relative to arrange the transfer of money into a bank account.

The relative contacted police during this period and detectives were able to carry out investigations to determine the man’s whereabouts.

Police attended the address yesterday afternoon and the two men were taken into custody.

It will be further alleged that during a search of the unit firearms, ammunition and a quantity of drugs were located.

A 36-year-old Mount Gravatt man and a 21-year-old Manly man were both charged with one count each of kidnapping for ransom and torture, two counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm and unlawful possession of weapons, six counts each of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of possession of a drug utensil.

Both were refused bail and are due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
