King tides expected from this weekend

Townsville City Council is encouraging residents in low-lying areas to take precautions ahead of the king tides expected from this weekend.

The king tides are predicted from Saturday and will reach a peak of 4.12m at 8.52am on Monday 9 March.

Council recommends that residents in areas that are prone to minor flooding during the tides move valuables and their cars to protect them from the saltwater.

Suburbs such as South Townsville and Railway Estate may be impacted, along with Hanran Street and Ogden Street in the city.

Motorists are asked to observe any warnings and road closures.

The tides forecast for the king tides is below:

  • 3.82m Saturday 7 March at 7.40am
  • 4.03m Sunday 8 March at 8.15am
  • 4.12m Monday 9 March at 8.52am
  • 4.07m Tuesday 10 March at 9.31am
  • 3.86m Wednesday 11 March at 10.11am
