Kingston residents are being invited to help shape how Council supports Australia Day events and activities across the city.

Consultation is now open for the community to share how they currently spend Australia Day, and what role they would like Council to play in running and/or supporting local events.

Feedback will help inform planning for 2027 and beyond, ensuring any future approach reflects community interests while balancing available resources and delivery timeframes.

Kingston Mayor Cr Georgina Oxley said the consultation was all about hearing directly from the community about how Australia Day is marked locally and how Council can best support the community.

"Australia Day is a time when people come together in different ways, and we want to hear what that looks like for our community here in Kingston," Cr Oxley said.

"From beach days and barbecues to community events and celebrations, this is an opportunity for people to share what they enjoy most, and how they think Council can help support those experiences into the future."

Cr Oxley said community feedback would play an important role in shaping Council's approach.

"We're keen to explore how we can support inclusive, welcoming and locally meaningful ways to mark Australia Day," she said.

"This is about bringing people together and making sure any future events or activities reflect the diversity, pride and community spirit we see right across Kingston."

Currently, Council recognises Australia Day through a very special citizenship ceremony welcoming hundreds of new citizens, and by sponsoring the annual Mordialloc Carnival fireworks display.

Council will also reach out to local First Nations representatives and Traditional Owners, young people, multicultural organisations, community groups and local traders to make sure we hear from a wide cross-section of the community.

Community members can share their feedback at yourkingstonyoursay.com.au/australia-day before Monday 27 April.
