Kingston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a credit card was found and used across a number of locations within the southern metropolitan area, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told a woman lost her credit card in Mentone on 2 February.
An unknown man later found the card and used it on a number of occasions at various outlets within the Mentone, Cheltenham, Highett, Windsor and Melbourne areas.
Police have released several images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
He is described as about 40 years old and approximately 183cm tall with a medium to solid build.
The man was wearing a dark hoodie, dark runners with bright blue laces and blue jeans at the time, and was carrying a backpack.
Anyone with information or who recognises the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
