Kino Lorber nabs "Tower," doc about 1st U.S. mass school shooting

- Kino Lorber acquired the U.S. distribution rights to "Tower", an animated documentary about the United States’ first mass school shooting, the company announced Monday, June 20, according to TheWrap.

The documentary premiered worldwide at SXSW in 2016 and won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for best documentary feature.

"Tower" revolves around a mass shooting at the University of Texas at Austin in which a gunman named Charles Whitman scaled a clock tower and shot 49 people, killing 17.

Whitman, a student at the university, held the campus hostage for more than 90 minutes.

The film combines archival footage and animation to tell the historical tragedy of the 1966 massacre.

"Tower" is directed by Keith Maitland and is to be released theatrically on October 12.
