Korean man charged over Sydney sexual assaults

Sex Crimes Squad detectives have arrested a man in relation to the alleged sexual assault of one woman and the indecent assault of another in the Sydney CBD in recent months, NSW police said.

Strike Force Rosebridge, comprising detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad and Sydney City Local Area Command, was established to investigate the two incidents which occurred in May and June this year.

Police will allege that about 6.15am on Monday 11 May 2015, a 34-year-old woman was walking into The Domain from Hospital Road when she was approached from behind and indecently assaulted. The woman kicked at the man and he ran from the scene.

About 4am on Thursday 11 June 2015, a 30-year-old woman was allegedly grabbed from behind by a man while walking south along George Street, Haymarket, and sexually assaulted. The man fled the area.

It is further alleged the man assaulted the woman again near Quay Street and pushed her to the ground before running off.

About 3pm yesterday, a 25-year-old man was arrested when he attended Sydney City Police Station.

The Korean national was charged with sexual assault, common assault, and three counts of indecent assault in relation to the June incident. He was additionally charged with two counts of indecent assault relating to the May incident.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
