Korean National Police Agency awards QPS officer and staff member

This morning a QPS officer and staff member were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Korean National Police Agency’s Commissioner General Chul-Sang Lee, Queensland Police say.

Sunny Jun and Sergeant Billy Li were presented the award by Consul Gang Won Jo – Police Attaché from the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney on behalf of the Korean Consulate and Korean National Police Agency.

The pair are the second and third QPS employees to receive such high-recognition by the Korean National Police Agency after Sergeant David Lucas received a certificate in 2013.

The presentation came after the pair worked closely on a fraud case involving a Korean national.

Sergeant Li said he and Ms Jun were not the only QPS staff members who should be acknowledged.

"I felt really honoured to be recognised in receiving this certificate from the Commissioner General of the Korean Police. However, I believe my team at the Cultural Support Unit should also be recognised as this is a result of a coordination of the many hard working officers involved," Sergeant Li said.

Other agencies involved in the investigation included Australian Border Force, Brisbane Airport Corporation, Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea and the Korean National Police Agency.
