Labor's infrastructure fantasy

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Wannabe Labor leader David O'Byrne can fib and whinge as much as he wants but that won't change the facts.

FACT: In 2019-20, the Tasmanian Liberal Government delivered infrastructure expenditure of $516 million.

FACT: The Labor-Green three-year average infrastructure investment in its last term of government, from 2011-12 to 2013-14, was $346.7 million.

FACT: The Tasmanian Liberal Government's average infrastructure investment from 2014-15 to 2019-20 was $446 million.

FACT: David O'Byrne's legacy as Infrastructure Minister was to spend the money set aside for the Bridgewater Bridge and set the project back a decade.

The fact is the Liberal Government is spending on average nearly $100 million more per year than the former Labor-Green government, which Mr O'Byrne was a part of.

On top of our record infrastructure program, which is already being rolled out, we are also fast-tracking and investing even more into job-creating infrastructure as part of our COVID-19 recovery package.
