Labor Sidelines Communities in Planning Move

Liberal Party Victoria
Victorians are being sidelined and kept in the dark by the Allan Labor Government as new planning provisions that threaten country lot sizes are quietly introduced by Labor.

Minister for Planning, Sonya Kilkenny, without appropriate public consultation, has signed off on planning amendment VC271, which states: 'The amendment enables a permit to be granted to create lots smaller than the minimum lot size where the subdivision is to create a lot for a utility installation used to transmit, distribute or store electricity if the installed capacity is 1 megawatt or greater (and is not by a public authority or utility service provider).'

The new planning amendment has been made without any public exhibition and allows for the creation of undersized and tiny lots for electricity purposes across the state.

This decision follows Labor stripping regional communities of their right to have a say in local planning decisions and introducing massive penalties for landowners who oppose transmission projects.

Shadow Minister for Planning, David Southwick, said: "This is yet another example of Labor cutting local communities out of the planning system."

"Victorians deserve a fair opportunity to have a say in decisions that impact the future of their local area and the Minister for Planning must explain why Labor has sidelined Victorians from this latest planning amendment."

Shadow Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, David Davis, said: "Labor have botched the energy transition and are now seeking to steamroll communities and councils rather than work with them.

"Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage the energy transition and Victorians are paying the price."
