Labor Turns on Andrews, Allan Stays Silent

Liberal Party Victoria

Despite the Labor movement publicly condemning Daniel Andrews' recent international appearance, Premier Jacinta Allan remains tied to the former Premier's hip.

For several days, Premier Jacinta Allan has avoided the media, after endorsing the behaviour of the former Premier, when she said of his appearance:

"It is good for Victoria..."

Since then, Labor figures from across the country have lined up to condemn the former Premier.

Victorian Deputy Premier, Ben Carroll:

"Most Victorians will be asking: Is it worth it for self-interested business purposes to be having a photo standing behind Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin?"

"I think for the vast majority, myself included, the value judgment [is] it's not worth that photo..."

Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese:

"...We did not send any government representative because it would not have been appropriate. None of my people would have sat in that position, as simple as that. What individuals do, very separate from the government, is a matter for them."

Foreign Minister, Penny Wong:

"I don't speak for private individuals, but I would hope that we all should be mindful of the message that our presence and engagement sends, as I certainly am."

Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Julian Hill:

The photo was "pretty surprising".

"Mr Andrews is a private citizen and what he chooses to do is up to him".

Former Federal Treasurer, Wayne Swan:

"He took a decision to go to that, the Australian government took a decision not to go,"

"When the Australian government took that decision, I think Dan should have taken the decision not to as well. But he's a private individual and that is up to him.

Former Victorian Minister, Philip Dalidakis:

"It's not the first time that Daniel has put self-interest ahead of the national interest but at least this time he's a private citizen,"

Long-serving Labor colleague:

"He has no shame"

Labor colleague:

"He's damaged but he won't care. It will hurt him amongst his peers; he'll be seen as venal."

The Shadow Treasurer, James Newbury, said: "Jacinta Allan needs to stop hiding and condemn Daniel Andrews.

"The entire Labor movement, including the Deputy Premier, has called out Daniel Andrews for standing with reviled figures like Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin. It is unacceptable behaviour.

"Victorians know the pain of losing 38 Australians in the MH17 tragedy - and Russia's responsibility for that horrific crime.

"Just as Victorians are alarmed and disturbed by Iran being cited by our security agencies for their involvement in terrorist acts aimed at undermining our social cohesion on Victorian soil.

"Every fair-minded Australian will condemn Daniel Andrews. And it is the Premier's turn to do so".
