Labor will help Tasmanian Basketball grow

Tasmanian Labor
  • Existing funding arrangements and commitments to be honoured
  • Funding for a Tasmanian WNBL Side
  • Labor is working for Tasmanians to deliver healthy, active and better-connected communities
  • A majority Labor Government will provide $1 million in funding over three years to help fund a Tasmanian WNBL side.

Shadow Minister for Sport David O'Byrne said Labor's Basketball package will honour existing funding commitments while creating a pathway for Tasmanian women to play professional basketball.

"Tasmanian women deserve the same opportunity for a pathway to elite basketball as men," Mr O'Byrne said.

"This is why a majority Labor Government will give $1 million in funding for a Tasmanian WNBL side over three years.

"We will also honour existing funding arrangements and commitments so Tasmania can rest easy knowing that under a majority Labor Government, basketball will receive the same funding that is currently being delivered.

"A majority Labor Government believes both Tasmanian men and women deserve a spot on the national stage.

"Labor is working for Tasmanians to deliver healthy, active and better-connected communities."
