The Allan Labor Government is once again misleading Victorians with promises of budget savings it has no intention, or ability of delivering.
In its 2025/26 State Budget, Labor claims it will save $544.6 million this financial year, and $3.25 billion across the forward estimates. But these so-called 'savings initiatives' are based on a review that hasn't even been completed.
Last year, Labor made similar promises budgeting $297.5 million in savings but delivered just $11.4 million. That's a pitiful 3.8 per cent of their target. It's clear: Labor overpromises and underdelivers every time.
Meanwhile, instead of cutting costs, the Government is spending more. Public sector employee expenses have surged by $402 million in just six months since the last budget update.
Shadow Minister for Finance, Bridget Vallence said: "Labor's fiscal strategy isn't worth the paper it's written on, if debt keeps soaring and they fail to achieve their own savings targets.
Labor's budget is built on debt and deception and Victorians are paying the price."
