Lack of PPE training for all LGH workers

Tasmanian Labor
  • All LGH workers must be trained in the use of PPE
  • Government's PPE training is piecemeal
  • All hospital workers must be protected
  • The Government is compromising the safety of workers and patients at the Launceston General Hospital by failing to provide access to the same training in the use of personal protective equipment that staff across the states's other hospitals have been offered.

Labor Leader, Rebecca White, said the Government's approach to training was piecemeal across the state's hospital network.

"While PPE training has been offered at the North West Regional and the Royal Hobart hospitals, the LGH has not had access to the same opportunities," Ms White said.

"This is of great concern given the outbreak previously experienced at the NWRH and the fact the LGH has been treating a number of COVID-19 positive patients, with a staff member now also testing positive.

"Staff at the LGH have worked under increased pressure in recent weeks and have done an incredible job supporting not just the North during the impact of COVID-19, but also the North West community after the closure of the NWRH.

"It is crucial we protect all hospital workers, their families and patients and the Government must immediately rollout the training for LGH staff in the use of life-saving PPE that is being offered at other facilities."
