Construction works have been completed on the Lake Bolac Resource Recovery Centre Upgrade Project with the facility opening on Wednesday, 27 January 2021.
The Project has been possible through State Government funding. Including $100,000 as part of Sustainability Victoria's E-Waste Facility Fund and $161,100 from the Resource Recovery Infrastructure Fund, totalling $261,100.
"The project involved building an entirely new site on an area which was not being utilised. The former site will be closed, and the land will be rehabilitated to EPA guidelines." said Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.
"The new facility will encourage and improve the processing of recycling and waste materials for the Lake Bolac community and surrounds. Including a reuse shop so that the community can reclaim materials from the centre themselves.
"Ararat Rural City Council is concerned with the way that we manage waste in our region and want to make sustainable processes as easy and simple as possible for our residents and contractors."
To assist Council with the management of waste, residents are encouraged to separate their general waste and recycling materials. The new centre will provide new guides and separate disposal areas for the different materials. Making the processes clearer and easier for the community to follow.
"Materials received at the Lake Bolac Recovery Centre will be sent off for re-processing. Sorting materials correctly as they are received helps ensure that they get recycled."
"The new sight has been developed with the future in mind and will be continually improved to ensure that best-practice waste management is continued into the future."
