Land Tax System "a Form Of Robodebt"

Liberal Party Victoria
Industry experts have described Victoria's land tax valuation system as "a form of Robodebt for land tax" and the state government cannot keep hiding from its own unfair system.

In recent years, the State Labor Government both increased the cost impost of land tax and changed how properties are valued, by centralising valuations through the Valuer General.

There has been an explosion of Victorians coming forward to expose the unfairness in the system and valuations that are often far outside the actual value of property.

In many cases, Victorians are threatened with land tax bills so great that they are forced to sell the property, realising sale prices far different than the so-called government values.

The Shadow Treasurer, James Newbury, said: "The Liberals and Nationals have consistently called out the deep unfairness in the tax system, specifically pointing to land tax.

"The truth is that the Labor Government uses property owners as a cash cow to fund government over-spend.

"We also know that the Labor Treasurer, Jacyln Symes, believes that property owners who are paying too much already, "can afford to pay more.

"The tax system in Victoria, and land tax more specifically, is broken, but Premier Allan will never fix it because she is sitting on the great big bag of money it rakes in."
