Two people have been charged after police located a large amount of heroin and cash during an intercept in East Melbourne on Thursday evening.
Officers were performing a roadblock on Olympic Boulevard when they observed a car with cancelled registration entering about 9.15 on 20 August.
When speaking with the driver, officers discovered drug paraphernalia in the footwell of the car and subsequently searched both occupants.
The male driver was located with what is believed to be 180g of heroin and a large amount of cash.
A female passenger was also found to be in possession of what is believed to be heroin and a large amount of cash.
The pair were arrested at the scene and transported to a police station where they were interviewed and charged.
A 42-year-old Brunswick man was charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of heroin, possessing heroin, dealing property suspected to be proceeds of crime, using an unregistered motor vehicle, possessing prescription drug without prescription, possessing a dangerous article and possessing a prohibited weapon without exemption.
A 25-year-old Keysborough woman was charged with possessing heroin, stating a false name when requested, dealing property suspected to be proceeds of crime and trafficking a commercial quantity of heroin.
Both were remanded in custody and are due to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 13 November.
Whilst committing the offences, the pair were also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and were issued a $1652 penalty notice.
The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Disaster declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
