Large well behaved crowds in Brisbane welcome in 2019

Revellers across Queensland were well behaved as the state welcomed 2019.

Whilst police across Queensland reported a busy night as people farewelled one year and welcomed another, revellers at major events throughout the state were mostly well behaved.

There were few policing incidents in the Brisbane area, especially considering the large crowds that gathered at numerous vantage points across the city.

The early fireworks at 8.30am saw large numbers at Southbank with families out in force to enjoy the festivities.

The large crowds viewing the midnight fireworks at Southbank, Fortitude Valley and the City were well behaved and dispersed quickly following the fireworks.

Across Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley and South Brisbane areas police charged 60 people on 60 charges for mostly anti-social or alcohol related incidents.

Some of which included 16 people charged with public nuisance, three with public urination, 14 with drug related offences, eight with obstruct police, four with possessing a weapon, two with possessing stolen property and one with wilful damage.

Police also issued nine liquor evictions, six street infringement notices for offences such as public nuisance and public urination and issued six banning notices.

Seventeen marine infringement notices were issued and one traffic infringement notice.
