Latest Emissions Projections Report Released

The Australian Government has released Australia's Emissions Projections 2025 report.

The report provides the latest estimates of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions to 2040.

The report shows:

  • emissions will be 3% below the 2021-2030 emissions budget, that is Australia overachieves on its 2030 emissions budget
  • emissions will be 42% below 2005 levels by 2030
  • we must reduce emissions further to meet our 2035 emissions reduction target.

The projections include currently implemented policies and measures. The projections do not include:

  • policies announced with the 2035 target
  • policies to further the decarbonisation priorities outlined in the Net Zero Plan and flagged in the 6 sector plans.

The report shows that the Australian Government has laid the policy foundations to achieve the 2035 target - but there is more work to do.

All parts of government and all parts of the community must continue to back more climate action to remain on track to achieve net zero by 2050.
