Australia Day will be celebrated across Latrobe City with free community events to take place in Boolarra, Churchill, Moe, Morwell, Toongabbie, Traralgon, Yallourn North and Yinnar. The community are encouraged to come together and enjoy a free breakfast and other activities.

Latrobe Leisure will once again be offering free access to their indoor and outdoor pools for the community to make a splash in the summer heat. Community members can join the fun by visiting Churchill, Morwell, Moe and Newborough Leisure Centres, Moe and Yallourn North outdoor pools, and Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre.

Latrobe City's newest Australian citizens will be welcomed during a civic ceremony at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre. Australia Day citizenship ceremonies are held nationwide and highlight Australian values which welcome people from all walks of life.

The civic ceremony will continue with the presentation of the Latrobe City Australia Day Awards. The awards recognise excellence in volunteering and other acts of service in the following categories: Community Service of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, and Citizen of the Year. The civic ceremony will be streamed live online from 1pm for the community to tune into. Latrobe City Council will post the direct link on their Facebook page on the day of the event.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said "Our strength is in our kindness to one another. The Australia Day Awards allow us to recognise some outstanding people in our community who give so much of themselves to make Latrobe a great place to live. I am delighted to acknowledge them this Australia Day."

"We're putting on some fantastic free events across Latrobe for us to come together. Australia Day is always a great opportunity for our community to connect and make new friends."
