Latrobe City Backs Inline Hockey Championships for Five Years

Latrobe City Council has committed to supporting the Australian Inline Hockey Club Championships in Moe for another five years, reinforcing the City's reputation as one of the nation's top destinations for major sporting events.

Council has endorsed funding of $20,000 per year over the next five years to support the annual championships, which generates an estimated $3 million annually through visitor spending on accommodation, hospitality, retail and other local services.

Latrobe City Council Mayor Cr Sharon Gibson said the championships are Australia's premier inline hockey tournament and one of the largest events of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

"We're very proud to support the Australian Inline Hockey Club Championships in Moe for another five years," Cr Gibson said.

"Council's funding support of $100,000 means that for every dollar we put in, we will bring in about $150 of expenditure to Latrobe City. That's an injection of around $15 million into the local economy, so it's a win-win all round.

"After 13 years of hosting the championships, it's wonderful to continue our partnership with Stadium 34 in Moe, and we look forward to welcoming back the many competitors, officials and supporters who come from across Australia and overseas for this exciting event."

Held annually over the Easter period, the six-day event features a wide range of divisions catering to different ages and skill levels, including Pro, Divisions 1-3, Masters and Women's competitions

Council's five-year commitment will be funded through its existing Major Event Attraction budget.
