Launch Of National Energy Performance Strategy

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Australian Government has launched the National Energy Performance Strategy today. In the supply-demand energy equation, this plan for the demand side offers real benefits to Australia and the transition to net zero.

Energy performance is about how we use energy better and manage the demand we put on the energy system. Reducing our energy use, planning for peak demand periods in the energy system or swapping to greener fuels are all types of energy performance.

Improving energy performance can make our homes more comfortable and cheaper to run and businesses more competitive. It's also essential in reaching our net zero goals.

The Strategy provides a long-term framework to coordinate and accelerate actions that improve energy performance so Australia can enjoy economic, climate and health benefits.

For households, businesses and industry, this means:

  • reduced energy bills
  • lower emissions
  • improved energy reliability and security.

The Australian Government invested $15.2 million to develop, evolve and deliver the Strategy through to 2026.

We worked with sectors across the economy and state and territory governments to develop the Strategy.
