Law Society congratulates Lea Armstrong on appointment to Supreme Court

President of the Law Society of NSW Doug Humphreys OAM today welcomed the appointment of solicitor Lea Armstrong as a Supreme Court judge and President of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).

The appointments were announced today by NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman.

In offering his congratulations to Ms Armstrong, the Law Society President also praised the NSW Government for recognising solicitors as suitable appointees to the Bench.

“Lea Armstrong is an outstanding solicitor with more than 25 years’ experience in commercial and government law and a long-standing member of the Law Society of NSW,” Mr Humphreys said.

“Ms Armstrong made history by becoming the state’s first female Crown Solicitor and prior to that the first ever General Counsel for NSW Treasury,” Mr Humphreys said.

“In her latest appointments, she continues to be a trailblazer in the legal profession and an exceptional role model for young female lawyers.

“I am delighted the NSW Government has acknowledged her expertise with this prestigious appointment and I look forward to working with her in her new roles.”

Ms Armstrong will be sworn in as a Supreme Court judge on 31 October 2018, the same day that she begins her five-year term as NCAT President.
