Learner driver arrested at West Melbourne

Melbourne Highway Patrol officers arrested a learner driver at West Melbourne overnight., Victoria Police say

It’s alleged police detected a Holden Astra travelling west on Footscray Road at 158km/h in the 70km/h zone about 11.30pm last night.

The driver, a 16-year-old Altona North boy, was allegedly carrying three teenage boys in the car at the time and had no licensed accompanying driver.

His car, which he only purchased on Friday, was impounded for 30 days and he will have to $890 towing and storage costs to get it back.

The boy was bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date, charged with reckless conduct endangering person, speed dangerous, exceeding the speed limit, being an unaccompanied learner driver, failing to display L plates and failing to carry a learner permit.
