Leichhardt LAC Active Armed Offender and Emergency Exercise, NSW

Leichhardt Local Area Command will today conduct a Local Active Armed Offender and Emergency Exercise at White Bay Cruise Terminal, NSW Police say.

The exercise will involve officers from the Leichhardt Local Area Command, Australian Border Force, Port Authority of NSW, Fire & Rescue NSW, and NSW Ambulance.

The exercise has been designed specifically to equip officers with the additional skills and training they might require when responding to a local incident.

Superintendent Paul Pisansos, Commander of the Leichhardt Local Area Command, said the public can take comfort in the fact that police use a range of locations and scenarios to train officers with our partner agencies.

"I want to make it crystal clear – there is no threat to the cruise industry or this terminal.

"This exercise is about giving officers the training and tactical skills to protect the community in environments that are diverse and challenging."

"How we interact with state government departments such as the Ports Authority of NSW and bodies like the Australian Border Force critical to our success."

"And our emergency response partners play a significant role as well."

As part of the scenario Fire & Rescue NSW have to respond to a fire on a boat which presents a whole range of safety and environmental issues.

"The program has been designed specifically to equip officers with the additional skills, training and resources they need when first on the scene at a terrorism or high-risk incident."
