This week marks 7 years to go until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games (the Brisbane 2032 Games).
Many people will remember where they were when Cathy Freeman won gold or they saw Ian Thorpe's five medal haul at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. The first Olympics of the new millennium also featured the contribution of amazing volunteers and a first place finish in the overall medal count for Australia at the 2000 Paralympic Games.
As we countdown to 2032 excitement is building to do it all over again and host the biggest sporting event in the world. For many Australians, it will be their first time seeing the Olympics and Paralympics on Australian soil.
The good news is we don't have to wait long for the chance to cheer on Australian and international athletes at home, with many events happening this year and into 2026.
Australia will showcase its strength as an international host across the Green and Gold decade - a decade of major international sporting events that culminates in the Brisbane 2032 Games. Over the next 12 months and beyond, events will include:

- Virtus World Athletics Championships 2025
- AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026
- Netball World Cup 2027
- Men's and Women's Rugby World Cup 2027 & 2029
