Notice of Advice

Bureau of Meteorology
Flood Warning for the Fitzroy River and Tributaries

A warning was issued advising that the Fitzroy River
is expected to reach major flood level of 8.5 metres on Monday afternoon 3 April,
and peaking at 9.4 on Wednesday afternoon 5 April 2017.

Rockhampton Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group
is advising that your home will be impacted.

Please don’t be alarmed – be prepared
Self-evacuation is always the first option.

 Consider staying with family or friends that live in an area that
won’t be impacted by flood waters.

Visit www.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au and download the
Emergency Action Guide for information regarding the actions residents
should take to prepare for the likelihood of a flood.

Who will this affect?

Past flood data has indicated that predicted flooding will affect Port Curtis,
Depot Hill and surrounds, Berserker, Koongal, Lakes Creek Road and areas
close to the Fitzory River in Wandal, Park Avenue and Kawana.

Prepare your household

  • Heed all warnings and advice;
  • Clean up your yard, removing any unnecessary
    green waste to Lakes Creek Landfill;
  • Move as many household items (including
    cardboard boxes and newspaper items) to as
    high a point as possible;
  • Pile furniture on beds and personal items on the
    furniture and remove all drawers from built-ins;
  • Tie down loose items in your yard to prevent
    them floating away;
  • Protect items of value that cannot be removed
    by enclosing them in waterproof covers.
  • Ensure all chemicals that may react with water
    are within a waterproof container and are moved
    to a higher level;
  • Gas cylinders and gas bottles should be
    disconnected and tied down or placed above
    flood height; and
  • Close the main water valve.
  • Secure your wheelie bin.
  • Clean out your fridge and freezer.

Evacuation Centre

Self-evacuation should always be your first point of call. Consider staying with family or friends that live in an area that is safe from flood waters. If you do not have the ability to self-evacuate an evacuation centre is being set up.

Only residents in the affected flood areas can access the help of the Evacuation Centre.
If you are preparing to stay at the Evacuation Centre, the following rules are in place:

  • Bring ID with your address on it.
  • Bring your own bedding with you.
  • No Pets allowed under any circumstance.
  • No alcohol allowed within the Evacuation Centre
    or the Showgrounds.
  • Please bring your medications and prescriptions.

Residents utilising the Evacuation Centre are asked to be mindful of others while at the centre.
