Light plane crash at George Town

Shortly after 4:40pm on Sunday 31/3/19 a light plane crash was reported in bushland off Soldiers Settlement Road, George Town.

The two male occupants of the plane, aged 61 years and 64 years, were treated by Ambulance Tasmania at the scene prior to being transported to Launceston General Hospital. Both males sustained non life threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

Tasmania Fire Service and SES also attended at the scene.

The incident has been reported to Australian Transport Safety Bureau and Worksafe Tasmania.

It is believed that changing wind conditions affected the light planes' ability to climb during take-off from the George Town Airport causing it to crash into trees south of the airport.
