Liverpool to host National Economic Development Conference in 2020

28 October 2019

Liverpool City Council has been announced as the host of the 2020 National Economic Development Australia Conference.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said Liverpool was the ideal candidate to host the conference.

"As Sydney's third CBD, the gateway city to Western Sydney International Airport and the home of the Liverpool Innovation Precinct, Liverpool is a global city and the perfect backdrop for Australia's national gathering of economic development leaders," Mayor Waller said.

"As a Council, we put a lot of energy into supporting businesses of all sizes to tap into the growth Liverpool is experiencing.

"A year since the signing of the Western Sydney City Deal – a partnership between the eight Western Parkland City councils, the NSW Government and the Federal Government, we can offer insight into how cities and regions of all sizes can deliver economic development outcomes through collaboration."

The announcement was made at the 2019 National Economic Development Conference in Adelaide, which attracted more than 250 economic development leaders from across Australia.

Mayor Waller said the 2020 conference theme would be Breaking New Ground: Building a New City for the Future.

"Australian and international experts will deliver knowledge and insights around unlocking the value of catalytic projects, like Western Sydney International Airport and the Liverpool Innovation Precinct," Mayor Waller said.

"Participants will have the opportunity to visit Liverpool City and view first-hand the rapid transformation and change happening in South West Sydney."
