Liverpool's Australia Day celebrations were a resounding success, with more than 10,000 people flocking to Woodward Park to fly the flag and celebrate the multicultural harmony that defines the city.
Mayor Ned Mannoun said the event showcased Liverpool at its best: vibrant, inclusive and united.
"Australia Day in Liverpool is about who we are as a community," Mayor Mannoun said.
"It's about shared values, respect, opportunity and the extraordinary cultural diversity that makes Liverpool one of Australia's great cities. Seeing families from every background coming together, enjoying the festivities and celebrating what unites us was incredibly uplifting."
The evening featured live entertainment, family-friendly activities, community displays and a wide range of food stalls reflecting Liverpool's global flavours.
A highlight of the celebrations was the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, where council invited 80 new citizens from 24 nations across the globe, to proudly pledged their commitment to Australia. Mayor Mannoun said welcoming new Australians remains a cornerstone of Liverpool's Australia Day.
"Liverpool has long been a gateway city for new Australians," he said.
"Each citizenship ceremony is a powerful reminder that our diversity is our strength and that our future is built by people who choose to call this city home."
Council also announced the recipients of its 2026 Liverpool Australia Day Awards, recognising outstanding local contributions:
- Citizen of the Year: Gary Karavellas, for his dedication and service to the Liverpool community.
- Young Citizen of the Year: Daniya Syed, recognised for her leadership, advocacy and positive impact as a young community leader.
- Community Group Award in honour of Peter Fraser: The City of Liverpool & District Historical Society Inc, acknowledged for its ongoing work preserving and promoting Liverpool's rich local history.
"These award recipients reflect the heart of Liverpool," Mayor Mannoun said.
"They represent service, leadership, generosity and pride in community — values that define our city."
The Woodward Park Spectacular ran from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm and included live performances, children's activities, an Aussie stockman show, emergency services displays and a popular hot rod showcase, creating a welcoming and inclusive celebration for all ages.
"More than 10,000 people choosing to celebrate together is a powerful statement about the strength and harmony of our community," Mayor Mannoun said.
"Liverpool's Australia Day celebrations continue to grow because they reflect who we are — diverse, proud and united."
