Loaded handgun, $39,800 cash seized, man charged in South West Metropolitan RES

A man is due in court charged after he was found with a loaded Magnum handgun, $39,000 cash, drugs and five mobile phones when he was stopped and searched in Lansvale yesterday, NSW Police say.

Officers attached to South West Metropolitan’s Region Enforcement Squad (RES) stopped the man at a hotel on the Hume Highway about 5.30pm (Tuesday 14 August 2018).

Police will allege when the man was searched, they found a .357 Magnum handgun down the front of the man’s pants; they also seized cash, mobiles, methyl amphetamine, heroin and prescribed drugs.

The 29-year-old man was arrested and immediately served him with a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) and a Weapons Prohibition Order (WPO).

A room at the hotel was searched, where police seized further ammunition; a short time later, a home in Carramar was also searched where a further 50 rounds of live ammunition was seized.

A search warrant has also been executed at a home in Cambridge Street, Canley Vale, where police seized an extended Glock magazine, containing 30 rounds, as well as body armour and $39,800 in cash. That search is continuing.

A car has also been taken from the Canley Vale address for forensic examination as part of an unrelated investigation into an incident at Fairfield at the weekend, where police were told a man pulled a gun on another driver. Two knives were also found in the console of the car.

The 29-year-old man, from Canley Vale, was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with possess firearm in a public place, possess unregistered firearm, supply prohibited drugs, possess prohibited drugs, and deal in proceeds of crime

He has been refused bail and will appear in Fairfield Local Court later today (Wednesday 15 August 2018).

A 26-year-old woman, from Cabramatta, was arrested at the same time for being in possession of a knife, and prescription medication. She will be charged at Liverpool Police Station.
