Loaded handgun seized after drug bus stop in Concord

Inquiries are continuing after a loaded handgun was seized during a drug bus operation at Concord yesterday, NSW Police say.

Officers from the South West Metropolitan Region Highway Patrol were conducting a drug bus operation about 3pm yesterday, when they stopped a 2013-model black Land Rover in Gipps Street.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Bonnyrigg Heights, allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test and he was arrested for the purpose of a further test.

Police will allege as the man left his vehicle a bag of cannabis fell onto the roadway.

When the vehicle was searched, officers allege a loaded .22 loaded handgun was found hidden in a modified compartment. Ammunition was also seized.

A bag containing white powder – believed to be cocaine – was also found and seized for forensic examination.

The driver has been suspended from driving for 24 hours, pending the results of the drug test.

Inquiries are continuing, with investigators planning to interview the owner of the Land Rover.
