Local Art Lights Way At Oakleigh Eaton Mall

Eaton mall footpath projections artist Elle Abdo

We're lighting up Eaton Mall with a series of artistic footpath projections by Oakleigh-based artist Elle Abdo.

Commissioned by Council and installed in September, the projections celebrate the area's rich cultural identity through public art.

Elle's designs prominently feature the olive leaf in rich Hellenic blue, a symbol deeply rooted in Greek mythology, culture and history. Traditionally associated with peace, wisdom and resilience, the olive leaf serves as a meaningful tribute to the Greek community's enduring influence in the area.

It's also an area close to Elle's heart, with her business based in Eaton Mall.

'I've watched Eaton Mall grow and transform over the years,' she says.

'I feel so proud to have made even a small contribution to the vibrancy and colour of the precinct. I can't wait to witness it all unfold with front row seats from my office balcony!'

The project forms part of Monash Council's ongoing commitment to placemaking and cultural recognition through creative expression in public spaces.

Next time you're in the area enjoying the vibrant dining and shopping precinct, take a stroll and see if you can spot them all!
