Local Biz Pioneers Net Zero with CitySwitch Aid

City of Port Phillip
At City of Port Phillip, we're proud to work in partnership with businesses to help them reduce costs, cut emissions and operate more sustainably.

One of the programs making a real difference is CitySwitch - a free initiative supported by Council that helps commercial office tenants reduce their environmental footprint. Through CitySwitch, businesses gain access to:

  • practical tools and self-assessment templates
  • free advice and walk-through audits
  • funding opportunities
  • no-cost workshops and networking events
  • annual awards and industry research.

Baenziger Coles - local sustainability leader

South Melbourne-based architecture firm Baenziger Coles is proving that small businesses can lead with integrity and impact.

With support from the CitySwitch program, Baenziger Coles recently achieved net zero carbon emissions - a milestone reached through practical action and strong values.

As part of their journey, the firm partnered with the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation (AbCF) to purchase carbon credits, creating a relationship grounded in shared values and support for First Nations-led climate solutions.

Sue, Director at Baenziger Coles, admits she felt a little disappointed when the firm reached net zero and no longer needed to purchase credits from AbCF. But that moment represented something bigger: a commitment to addressing emissions at the source.

In recognition of her support, Sue was invited to join AbCF's inaugural on-country visit with the Western Yalanji people - a rare opportunity to learn firsthand about carbon farming and cultural fire credit programs.

Congratulations to Baenziger Coles - a true local champion in the City of Port Phillip, leading by example and inspiring others to follow.
