Local suppliers benefiting from Council's procurement policy

Changes to Toowoomba Regional Council's (TRC) Procurement policy over the past 18 months has seen local spend continue to rise, with 63% spent locally this financial year to date.

TRC Deputy Mayor and Finance and Business Strategy Committee chair Cr Geoff McDonald said this worked out to $32,893,000 that had been kept in the Region since 1 July.

"We're committed to supporting local suppliers, which has been reflected in several changes to our Procurement policy," Cr McDonald said.

"In August, our local spend was about two-thirds (65%) of all spending, which works out to $14,258,000 in this month alone.

"This is a great outcome for our local suppliers, businesses and residents in general. When you also consider the thousands of visitors we've had in September for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers who have spent money in our area, the Region is thriving at the moment."
