Logan choir captured in new album

Mixed Beans Multi-Cultural Choir will launch its first album at the Logan Art Gallery on Saturday, August 17.

Ten years of voices raised in song will be celebrated at a special launch at the Logan Art Gallery this month.

Mixed Beans Multi-cultural Choir is marking the occasion by releasing its first album.

DecaDance will contain 12 tracks and feature a mix of original songs and cover versions.

Conductor Cath Mundy said the choir was excited about the upcoming launch of the album on August 17 at the gallery.

"From 2pm we will be presenting a selection of numbers from DecaDance," she said.

Ms Mundy said the choir had about 55 members of all different ages and nationalities.

Forty of these members had taken part in the recording of DecaDance.

"The choir has always had a multi-lingual focus and this is reflected in the album."

Ms Mundy said the album started with an African chant.

"Through this we want to show that together the whole being is greater than the parts."

Ms Mundy said Beenleigh resident Cathy Korzeniewski had contributed the original kooky children's song Mad Monkeys to the album.

Indian-fusion vocalist Menaka Thomas was also invited to be a guest vocalist on the song Ubuntu/DecaDance (The Story of Mixed Beans).

This original track was written to celebrate the choir's first decade by choir leaders John Rodriquez, Cath Mundy and Jay Turner.

The DecaDance project is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund which is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Bookings are essential for the launch and can be made by phoning 3412 5519 or online at logan.qld.gov.au/galleryevents
