Lord Mayor's Christmas Gala Concert at Adelaide Town Hall this Saturday

Adelaide Town Hall will come alive with the sounds of Christmas, along with classical and modern greats, on Saturday 12 December from 2:00 pm at the Lord Mayor's Christmas Gala Concert for 2020.

Hosted by well-loved Adelaide identity Keith Conlon, this year's gala concert, free for all City of Adelaide residents, brings together some of Adelaide's finest local talent to celebrate the festive season.

The concert will begin with a musical welcome by Mark Oates and the McCall Sisters who will perform The Holy City and finish the concert with The Hallelujah Chorus. Hear all your favourite Christmas songs and carols from a fabulous line-up of artists, including Adelaide's own Graduate Singers, world-renowned jazz musician Julian Ferraretto, Troy Loakes and Jonno McIntyre on Bagpipes plus Mark Oates and The McCall Sisters. Ngaanyatjarra singer and songwriter Vonda Last and the Jelja Quartet will perform some of her original and melodic songs which evoke a strong sense of the Australian landscape and way of life. Plus, witness exquisite Argentinian Tango from Studio Tango and performances from Black Cat Theatre. Bring the kids and grand kids and be on the lookout for Father Christmas and his magical elves - who knows what surprises they'll bring?

Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor said that the gala was a musical way to celebrate the festive season in the City of Adelaide.

"As we approach Christmas and the end of what as been a difficult year, we can look forward to immersing ourselves in some beautiful music in the magical and historic Adelaide Town Hall.

"Adelaide is the only UNESCO City of Music in Australia and this year's Gala concert is a reflection of our musical culture.

"It's a celebration of different styles and eras of music, and of course the Christmas Carols that we all know and love.

"The Christmas Gala Concert is a long-standing tradition of joining with the community to celebrate the Town Hall's history and welcome Christmas with a wonderful variety of music.

"I would love to see members of our community joining me for an afternoon of music, history and Christmas cheer. I would also like to wish everyone a wonderful festive season."

Seating

SA Health guidelines inform all seating arrangements and venue capacities.

Adelaide Town Hall is following SA Health advice on the safe operation of specific indoor venues, like theatres, which can operate at 50 per cent capacity. Inside the theatre, patrons will not be 1.5 metres from each other. Instead, patrons will sit in a checker board pattern with a single seat spaced between each patron in a row. There may be people sitting directly in front or behind each person, depending on the seat formation in the venue. Seating is allocated to accommodate adequate spacing in each row and considering those in the rows in front and behind. For that reason, patrons must sit in the seat assigned to them on their ticket and will not be permitted to sit in the seat next to another patron, even if they are a friend or family.
