Macleay embraces International Day of People with Disability

Two key events are planned as part of the inaugural International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) celebrations in the Macleay.

IDPWD celebrates the achievements and contributions of people with disability, and how these enrich our community and culture. It also aims to break down the barriers of disability and celebrate abilities of all kinds.

A Riverside Fun Day at Riverside Park, Kempsey will be held on Tuesday, 3 December from 10am until 2pm. The Fun Day will feature information stalls for disability services providers in the Macleay, along with a range of fun activities for people of all abilities.

The Glitz & Glamour Ball will offer a night of fun that people with a disability often miss out on - a lovely dinner, entertainment and dancing at the Slim Dusty Centre from 6pm on Saturday, 7 December.

Council's Community Project Officer, Stephen Neale, said with the support of local businesses, service providers and community groups, Council aims to make the IDPWD Festival an annual celebration in the Macleay Valley.

"Council would like to thank Key Employment for coming on board as the principal sponsor and Macleay Options and Booroongen Djugun Limited as the two major sponsors," he said.

"We also have some wonderful supporting sponsors, Glitz and Glamour Ball table sponsors and have received some in-kind donations."

Tickets for the Glitz and Glamour Ball are still available but get in quick as ticket sales will close on November 30.
